TalentStar worked with ABAH, a Derwentside District Council project, to produce a Spanish Multi media project. TalentStar ran twice weekly workshops over eight weeks. Media Production workshops were run at Greencroft School and Media Promotion workshops were run at St Bedes School in Lanchester. The Lamplight Arts Centre in Stanley played host to the Spanish celebration night where all the workshops come together to showcase to members from the local community. TalentStar mentored a young man through this project.
What is ABAH? The ABAH Project focuses upon raising young people's educational aspirations and achievements. At the same time it is helping adults develop IT skills through the introduction of broadband Internet and comprehensive training schemes. This high-speed connectivity, coupled with local educational support will bring increased access to learning, which is a key enabler for the development of a "more self reliant robust local economy". This in turn will improve the quality of life and prosperity of our residents.Although the initiative was primarily targeted towards young people, the Council has now begun sessions for adults to help raise aspirations. Training courses include: Internet, e-mail, MS Office and the opportunity to access accredited courses e.g. European Driving Licence. The adult training sessions are flexible and easily adapted to fit different lifestyles. The times and even days are often changed so that working people or those with young children can attend. Derwentside District Council is supporting ABAH with a range of initiatives from a team of IT Technicians on hand to help the local community and a 24 hour telephone helpline. |
